There is something undeniably hilarious about an entire political, legal, and media ecosystem dedicating itself for years to bringing down one man,
only to discover he keeps standing there like Gulliver while tiny furious politicians throw mud at his shoes.
When the Knesset doesn’t do its job – the High Court of Justice will pick up the gauntlet, write the laws, shape reality, and even make you drink soda from the fridge.
Rabin was assassinated – and we all lost, but whoever tried to turn the assassination into a permanent political currency is the one who really killed the possibility of a healthy discourse.
Thirty years later, maybe it’s time to stop the festival, and start understanding that democracy wasn’t assassinated then – it was simply hijacked since then.
A Jewish and democratic state – or a state of the High Court and the Land?
It is impossible to preserve a democracy in which judges judge the people – instead of the people electing their leaders. It is impossible to continue in a reality in which every national initiative, every conservative reform, every law with a Jewish character – is immediately passed through a sieve of consultants, lawyers, and in the end – 15 people who feel like a grand jury of a country in which they do not even have a flag.
