A post with a dash of humor and a dash of sadness about the astonishing gap between two words that are not really similar, but for some reason are labeled as “the same thing”:
If you’ve found yourself confused between burqa, hijab, niqab, chador, veil, and other names that sound more like postcolonial fusion restaurant menus than clothing items — you’re not alone.
If you wonder why some women cover their faces, hair, bodies, or everything, including their eyes — and you still have to pretend it’s a “free choice” — you already live in the liberal West of the 21st century, where reason has succumbed to relativism, and “women’s liberation” includes the right to proudly walk into the sack.
Before our eyes, a strange, disturbing and sometimes pathetic alliance is being forged between the radical left in the West and fundamentalist Islamist movements. They call it the red-green alliance – red like the blood from the communist revolution, green like the flags of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. And this is not science fiction, this is the reality in which universities, the media and, rather disturbingly, quite a few European politicians live.
